A3 Lost & Found Print.
This print was designed for a competition with Glyndebourne Opera the brief been to design a programme cover for their summer tour. The piece of art needed to represent their three touring operas in Summer 2019, Rigoletto, L'elisir d'amore & Rinaldo.
My inspiration was to focus on the lost and found relationships of the characters of the operas. I choose different size rings to represent the different statuses of the characters, embroidering them to show the threads and unions that make up their individual life stories. The sheer fragility of relationships I interpreted using pressed flowers, an organic metamorphosing material. Movement is important to the piece inspired by the simple diagrams used by biologists to explain life cycles. Petals are used symbolically to represent romance, magic and sorcery.
Printed on quality giclee paper.
Please note: THIS IS A PRINT! The original artwork was embroidered into recycled brown paper with a chunky DK yarn, the precarious process itself making this element of design as fragile as the pressed flowers and leaves. One wrong move and the pieces turn into huge ripped holes. Holding the fragile paper at just the right angles as she stitches and pulling the needle in only one direction has allowed me to develop this method of embroidery with stunning results.
This print is A3 in size, 11.7 x 16.5" (297 x 420 mm). This is an open edition.
