The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark

Does anybody remember the story of ‘Plop’ the little barn owl in The Children’s book ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark?’  I gave myself a challenge this month to curate a fun and inspirational gift guide based around the story.  I took Plop’s seven discoveries about the dark to help me, exciting, necessary, kind, fun, fascinating, wonderful and beautiful.

Hand crafted emboidered art

Magical Kind

Nurture your soul and take time out for yourself with this paper embroidery kit of a barn owl.  Embroidering into paper is very therapeutic and this kit makes it easy to follow with a template showing exactly where to pierce.  Each kit makes an A3 piece of art that you could hang in a magnetic poster frame or professionally frame with a double mount or box frame. They would make magical hand crafted gifts.

Wonderfully Memorable

Who would forget seeing a parliament of owls discussing the business of the day?  Too charming for words, Mountain & Molehill have used collaged Victorian illustrations to create this scene on their fine art paper shade.  Handguilded, they are finished off with an exquisite hand applied gold detail ensuring no two are the same.

Hand crafted star decorations

A Beautiful Surprise

Versatile for use indoors or out, create your own night sky with these beautiful handmade fairtrade stars.  There are many designs and colours to choose from but I was taken by the antique white paisley-inspired design on this paper, set against the dark black background.   60cm in size it is sure to be a surprise element and talking point where ever you find it a home whether over a light bulb or with a battery set of LED lights wrapped inside it.

Late Nights

This figure of mother earth drapped over the moon was a  piece of original art that artist Claudine Peronne has had printed onto a greetings card. This is part of a larger collection of animal, spiritual, art cards that she sells through Folksy.
